Various governments, organizations, heads of state, and internationalists from around the world have greeted Nicaragua on the occasion of the 128th anniversary of the birth of the National Hero and universal icon of anti-imperialist struggles, General Augusto C. Sandino.
In the context of this extensive commemorative event, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, sent a letter to Nicaragua, honoring Sandino and the Sandinista Nation.
«General Sandino was a man of action, effectively engaged in combat, fearless in his bravery, who defeated the arrogant invading white man, rich in technology but poor in dignity and valor,» expressed the Venezuelan President.
President Maduro emphasized that General Sandino «was a man of principles, patriotic love, unwavering will, service and dedication to others, incorruptible, and possessed a magnanimous moral authority that nurtured his political and revolutionary leadership.»
Sandino commemorated around the world
Nations from around the world have joined in commemorations honoring the General of Free Men and Women, Augusto C. Sandino, through various cultural activities, seminars, and artistic gatherings.
At Alva Edison University in Puebla, Mexico, an important panel discussion was held with authorities and different cultural figures to commemorate General Sandino’s birth anniversary. During this enjoyable gathering, attendees exchanged ideas about the documentary «Nicaragua: Achievements of the Revolution.»
Likewise, at the University of Xalapa, Veracruz, in Mexican territory, a meeting was held with students and academic authorities, where episodes on Autonomy and Democracy from the 13-episode series «Nicaragua: Achievements of the Revolution,» produced and directed by Adrián Carrasco Zanini Molina in collaboration with the Nicaraguan communication channel Canal 6 and the National Cinematheque of the Central American country, were screened.
The Government of Nicaragua, regarding the event at the Mexican university, detailed that they discussed the Life, Trajectory, Struggles, and Legacies of General Augusto C. Sandino, who, as a young man, witnessed the corpse of Benjamín Zeledón and 17 years later wrote, «There I saw Nicaragua’s honor stained with blood,» organizing his Army for the Defense of National Sovereignty to expel the Yankee invaders from Nicaragua.
Different diplomatic embassies commemorate General Sandino
The Embassy of Austria is holding a symbolic Photographic Exhibition about the life, struggle, and legacy of the emblematic Nicaraguan hero, which has been visited by personalities, ambassadors, and members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in that nation.
Similarly, the Embassy of Nicaragua in Russia joined the commemorative celebrations in reference to General Sandino’s birth anniversary, hosting a lecture on «The Anti-imperialist Struggle and Thought of General Sandino: Life and Legacy of National Dignity and Decorum.»
Nicaraguan diplomacy highlighted the tribute to the legendary revolutionary from Monimbó Square in Berlin, Germany, a site named in honor of one of Nicaragua’s indigenous communities that had a transcendental relevance in the insurrection led by the Sandinista National Liberation Front against the Somoza tyranny.
The gathering included Friends of Solidarity, Nicaraguans residing in that European nation, and the recently elected mayor of Lichtenberg District, Mr. Martin Schaefer, «who highlighted the bonds of friendship between our peoples,» stated representatives of the Nicaraguan government.

In that context, the Embassy of Nicaragua in Italy, along with the Embassies of Cuba, Bolivia, Venezuela, journalists, intellectuals, and members of the Patria Socialista Political Movement, held an event to commemorate the historic date of General Augusto C. Sandino’s birth.
