Honduras rejected statements by the U.S. ambassador, noting that these claims seek to divide the Latin American nation.

Enrique Reina, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Honduras, denounced the plans detected by Honduran intelligence that point to conspiracy through barracks hit by the United States ambassador, Laura Dogu.

Our proposal is to hold a frank meeting with the United States, however, when Ambassador Dogu arrived, we began to have certain differences, her first intervention is about the Energy Reform, said the Honduran diplomat.

According to Reina’s statements, the plan was intended to divide the Armed Forces, with some groups that would lead to the dismissal of the chief of staff, Rossvelt Hernández.

In Honduras, a barracks coup describes the dismissal of the head of the Armed Forces carried out by a group of officers, as happened in the Central American country during the 1970s and 1980s.

Statements by U.S. Ambassador to Honduras

The statements of the U.S. diplomat were disseminated in the context of the conduct of the upcoming presidential elections, to be held in 2025, where the new ruler of the Central American country will assume the presidency on January 27, 2026.

In this regard, on August 28, Ambassador Dogu expressed her surprise and disappointment – to see Honduran government officials in meetings with members of the Venezuelan army, whom he called a Venezuelan drug cartel, statements that Honduras’ president, Xiomara Castro, called unfounded and interfering.

Recently, the Honduran president published on her X account that the interference and interventionism of the United States, as well as her intention to lead the policy of Honduras through her Embassy and other representatives, is intolerable.
