Nicaragua celebrates, this November 6, its Municipal Elections 2022, in which more than 3.7 million citizens of the 153 municipalities of the Central American nation, are summoned to vote to elect mayors, deputy mayors, vice-mayors as well, as proprietary and alternate councilors.
The Supreme Electoral Council (SEC) of Nicaragua has set up 7,931 Voting Boards (VB) for these elections, in 3,106 Voting Centers (VC), distributed throughout the national territory.
For this civic celebration, more than 27 thousand candidacies have been presented, to elect 6,088 public positions, in which 4 political parties and 2 alliances of political parties are participating.
A historic milestone in gender equity.
The Nicaraguan Electoral Power has emphasized that this is a transcendental democratic process in Latin America, where the candidacies presented are 50% women and 50% men, under the principle of Equity and Gender Alternation.
The Concept of Gender Alternation establishes that if the number of public positions is odd, it must be represented by 50 % (+1), led by women.
In this sense, the 2022 Municipal Elections will make history in the region, since it is the first time in its democratic history that this nation will elect a large majority of women to municipal public office, with 77 women mayors and 76 men mayors to be elected.
The Political Organizations participating in these 2022 elections are the Constitutionalist Liberal Party (PLC), Alianza Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) which includes 9 Political Parties and 5 Movements, Partido Yapti Tasba Masraka Nanih Asla Takanka (YATAMA), Partido Alianza Liberal Nicaragüense (ALN), Partido Alianza por la República (APRE), Alianza Partido Liberal Independiente (Alianza PLI) which is conformed by two Political Parties.
