Nicaragua’s goal is to reach 99.40% national coverage by the end of 2023.
Nicaragua is just a few tenths of a percent away from reaching its total electricity coverage, with 91.31 % of the total ceiling, after having invested, in the last months, US$ 10.54 million in the execution of 98 projects, by the end of May 2023.
The Ministry of Energy and Mines of the Central American country, Salvador Mansell, reported that 7,734 homes have already been electrified, that is, 40,782 Nicaraguans have access to electricity.
“The government is working on the sustainability of the entire national energy system. A consultancy has been hired to follow up on the new projects to be executed, until 2023”, indicated the head of this portfolio, Salvador Mansell.
In this sense, he assured that the country has already planned and managed the resources to be placed for the development of a number of programs, labor and consultancies, in the next eight years in the energy field.
The energy development translates into more schools, productivity in the countryside, expansion of industry, pumping systems, hospitals and development in all socioeconomic areas for the country.
The Minister of Energy, specified that only in the Nicaraguan Caribbean, an investment of more than 230 million dollars has been made, expanding power transmission lines.

Under these objectives, he specified that 13,022 solar panels have been installed, so far in 2023, throughout the Caribbean Coast; he also announced that, in Bluefields, they are starting to develop a new electrical substation; while, in the community of Orinoco, located in the South Caribbean, a photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 100 KW is being built.

The energy produced and used by Nicaragua is 71.53 % from renewable sources, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases, and therefore in the fight against climate change.
