Nicaragua reaffirms its support for China in its position on Taiwan

Nicaragua supports China’s efforts to maintain stability in the Taiwan Strait.

The Nicaraguan government reiterates its adherence to the «one China» principle.

The Government of Nicaragua reiterated its support for the position of the People’s Republic of China on the island of Taiwan. Through a statement it opposed any separatist action or external interference in relation to the strait.

“The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of the Republic of Nicaragua and the Nicaraguan families, we want to express our full support for the People’s Republic of China, the Communist Party of China, its government and the people of that great country in their position on the Island of Taiwan, in which there is only one China in the world…” stated Nicaragua.

Furthermore, it was added that “the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate Government representing all of China,” and Taiwan, a province of the People’s Republic of China, is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, and United Nations Resolution 2758 reestablishes all rights of the People’s Republic of China and makes it clear that the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate Government of China in the United Nations.

The Nicaraguan statement comes at a time of growing tension between China and Taiwan, following the recent increase in US military support for the Chinese island.

“We resolutely oppose all separatist acts of the Taiwan regime and the interference of external forces. We appreciate and support all efforts of the Chinese Government to maintain stability in the Taiwan Strait and World Peace,” the statement of the Latin American nation continues.

In this sense, the Nicaraguan government reiterated its support for the government of President Xi Jinping, as well as for Chinese citizens, in their effort to achieve the reunification of the Asian nation.
