Israel must cease actions in Gaza and comply with anti-genocide convention, says Nicaragua

Nicaragua has issued a call to Israel, requesting an immediate end to its military actions against the Palestinian people and to cease operations in the Gaza Strip.

“Nicaragua urges Israel to end its actions against the Palestinian people and cease its military operations in Gaza, and to respect its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide,” reads the statement from the Nicaraguan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This exhortation, through a letter, is based on Nicaragua’s firm commitment to the Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide of 1948, to which it is a state party.

In this context, the Nicaraguan Government announces its willingness to adopt all necessary measures in accordance with international law to guarantee respect for its rights and interests protected by said Convention.

The Government of Nicaragua reiterated its call to the international community to act promptly and responsibly to end this humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
