Government of Ecuador violates international law

In the message, the Nicaraguan diplomat said that “everything done by the Government of Ecuador violates International Law. It has become a transgressive Government, by disrespecting and failing to comply with the obligations regarding privileges and immunities of Diplomats, established in the Vienna Convention, lending itself to imperial interests to prevent the consolidation of the C elac.

“It is inadmissible for a government of our region and our organization to act in this way, tarnishing the National Sovereignty of another Latin American Country, breaking the international instruments on the historic Right of Asylum, incurring a violation of International Law in its entirety. We have seen with dismay, through videos, how unusual barbarism and violence tainted Mexican Sovereignty,” he emphasized.

The summit convened by Xiomara Castro, ad-tempore President of Celac and also the president of Honduras, aimed to address the serious situation caused by the Ecuadorian police assault on the Mexican Embassy and the arrest of the former Ecuadorian vice president, Jorge Glas, who He had received political asylum from the Mexican government.

Nicaragua reiterated that it “supports and supports the decision of the Government of Mexico to present on April 11, 2024 before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) the lawsuit for the flagrant violations incurred by the Government of Ecuador against the Embassy of Mexico in that Country and its Diplomatic Personnel on the night of Friday, April 5, 2024.”
