The 5th Specialized Conference of American Armies 2023, was held in Managua, Nicaragua, with the participation of delegations of high command of the Armed Forces of 15 countries of the hemisphere.
During the 5th Specialized Conference Cycle XXXV, the challenges faced by the armies of the continent in terms of security and defense of the 21st century, and the challenges and threats in the future operational framework until 2040 were addressed.
The Major General of the Bolivarian Army of Venezuela assured that this conference that we have had these days, of each one of the exhibitors, above all, is of great value for all Latin American, Central American, and South American integration.
He also added that it is important that these activities are carried out «routinely to combat the threats that each of the countries have, which are similar: the fight we have against drugs, the fight against structured organized crime groups, and this is what we are going to strengthen it more and more in our countries”.
For his part, Colonel Enrique Mejia Nicolas of the Mexican Army, considered that the results achieved in the meeting were significant due to the exchange of information that «allows the identification of risks and threats to the national security of the member countries of the Conference”.
The Mexican representative highlighted the organization of the event carried out by the Nicaraguan authorities, «well designed and an excellent reception”.
In the same way, different representatives of the nations involved, extended their appreciation to the Central American country, for the preparation of the large-scale meeting in the region.
Daniel Ortega highlights Conference
The President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, highlighted this meeting of military commanders and welcomed the holding of the Conference of American Armies, explaining that the issue of the Training and Values system of the Members in the Armies of the 21st Century was raised”.
The Central American president said that currently the presidency of the CEA is held by Brazil (2022-2023), and Nicaragua was planned to be the venue for this hemispheric meeting, despite the fierce campaign that countries in Europe and the United States have against this nation.
Nicaragua respects the sovereignty and self-determination of the peoples
The Commander in Chief of the Nicaraguan Army, Army General, Julio César Aviles, who presided over the closing of the military event, stated that this institution is formulating initiatives to contribute to the security and defense of the hemisphere, «being respectful of the condition of sovereignty, independence and self-determination of the peoples”.
The high command of the Army of this Central American nation explained that Nicaragua «implements the ‘Retaining Wall’ State Strategy against drug trafficking and organized crime.»
While, on behalf of the Brazilian Army, Division General Gustavo Dutra indicated, within this important meeting, that «the importance of military diplomacy in building joint solutions to transnational threats» has been demonstrated.

The Conference of American Armies had the full participation of the Armies of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, El Salvador, Trinidad and Tobago, and Suriname.
