Nicaragua, in an act of solidarity for the current situation of the Palestinians, has decided to name one of the main roads and a recreational infrastructure in the capital Managua, as “Gaza Avenue” and “Palestine Park”, respectively.

“This has been agreed upon, everyone (those on the Municipal Council) voted unanimously, thus supporting our brother people of Palestine and that just cause of Palestine,” added the capital’s mayor, Reyna Rueda.

“Gaza Avenue”, which covers a 2.8 kilometer stretch from the Fray Bartolome de las Casas Park, has been officially designated with this name. In addition, the family recreation place located in the area has been renamed “Palestine Park”.

The municipal authorities highlighted that the new park has a broad design that includes gardens, forest species trees and various recreational areas for the enjoyment of the community.

This gesture of solidarity adds to the previous actions of Nicaragua, which has urged Israel to stop its military operations in the Gaza Strip and respect the obligations established in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide.

In addition, the Latin American country has formally submitted a request to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to participate in the lawsuit initiated by South Africa against Israel on December 29, 2023.
