The Parliament of Nicaragua unanimously approved, with 89 votes in favor, the law that declares «April, Month of Peace» for the citizens of the Latin American nation.

“Article 1 Declare the month of April as a month of Peace. Peace, Heritage of the Nicaraguan People, Supreme Blessing achieved in our Free, Dignified and Sovereign Nicaragua, is a historical legacy that we must celebrate with respect, concord and fraternity for prosperity,” reads the first article of the approved law.

Honoring peace in April

According to this law, April as Peace Month will be celebrated through the «deepening of the values, attitudes and behaviors that promote a culture of peace,» the National Assembly reports.

Likewise, the legal provision contemplates that «activities will be carried out in unity with Nicaraguan families, youth and communities throughout the national territory, to strengthen the commitment and will that all Nicaraguans have to live in peace, with work and security.» .

In this sense, the law will come into effect upon its publication in «La Gaceta Diario Oficial». Previously, in April 2023, the Nicaraguan parliament also declared April 19 as National Peace Day.
