After five days of voting in the Republic of Donetsk, Lugansk, and the Kherson and Zaporiyia territories; the referendums have ended and their citizens have voted overwhelmingly in favor of joining Russia, according to the results presented by the authorities of each region.
Voting in favor of joining Russia
Each of the residents was able to vote both in the liberated territories as well as in Russia. During the first 4 days, for security reasons, the votes were held outside the polling stations, but in the last one it was possible to go to the centers.
Results with 100 % of ballots counted
Donetsk residents, 99.23 % of them said yes to accession to Russia.
The Republic of Lugansk, decided to join the Russian territory, with 98.42 % of votes in favor.
Zaporiyia communicated its decision with 93.11 % of votes in favor in the referendum on accession to Russia.
The Kherson region, with 87.05 % of votes in favor, decided to become a part of Russia.
«The holding of the referendum is a historic milestone. Not only because we are confident in its positive outcome, but also because it is the culmination of our difficult common path,» said Denis Pushilin, the leader of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
Authorities of these regions affirm that, with their adhesion to Russia, security in their territory will be guaranteed and re-established as it was historically.
In the next few days, the draft law on the adoption of the issue in the Russian Federation will be submitted to the State Duma, as well as a law on the reaffirmation of the corresponding international treaty, which will specify the details of the incorporation of these regions into Russia.
