Chinese delegation meets with representatives of Nicaragua to strengthen trade exchanges.

Nicaragua receives a Chinese delegation to promote exports and cooperation.

An official business delegation from the People’s Republic of China holds meetings with representatives of the Government of Nicaragua, in Managua, with the aim of promoting trade exchanges and investment opportunities.

The presidential advisor for Investments, Trade and International Cooperation, Laureano Ortega Murillo, pointed out that the 24 businessmen from the Asian giant «come to work with our country, with our companies, with our colleagues, to promote the exports of Nicaraguan products to the market of the People’s Republic of China.”

The Chinese delegation, headed by Li Xinqiang, general director of the Department of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of China, will participate in a business forum in Managua and make contacts with local productive and business sectors, to explore investment opportunities and new markets.

During their visit, the Chinese delegation will hold meetings with authorities from the Central Bank of Nicaragua, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and the Secretariat of Investments and Exports.

 «We want to express our gratitude to President Xi Jinping, the Communist Party of China, and the People’s Government of China for the high attention and priority they give to the bilateral relationship with Nicaragua,» added the Nicaraguan advisor.

In this sense, Ortega Murillo emphasized the importance of taking full advantage of the Free Trade Agreement in force since January 1, 2024, as well as promoting bilateral commercial exchange between both nations.

In addition, the Nicaraguan advisor highlighted that Nicaragua is positioning itself as a «platform» for the Central American market, while China acts as a platform to access the Asian market.

Maritime route and airport megaproject

On August 1, Nicaragua and China inaugurated a direct maritime trade route under the Belt and Road initiative, to maximize the benefits of the Free Trade Agreement.

Also, on August 15, the megaproject of reconstruction, expansion and modernization of the Punta Huete international airport began, with an investment of 430 million dollars and planned to be completed in four years, whose work is in charge of the company CAMC Engineering Co., Lt. from China.

This airport, which was the largest military base in Nicaragua during the period of the Sandinista Revolution, is destined to become a transport, logistics and international trade connection node.
