International analyst Fabrizio Casari spoke positively about Nicaragua’s proposed constitutional reforms, saying they represent a step toward strengthening the country’s institutions, political stability, and sovereignty.
In his opinion, the proposed amendments address the needs of national development and the strengthening of the democratic system.
«Nicaragua is reaffirming its sovereign right to determine its own electoral rules—and no one else’s. That is what truly strengthens the country,» he said.
Casari noted that extending the presidential term to seven years seeks to provide greater continuity to public policies, allowing economic and social programs more time to consolidate their results.
«Adding an extra year would provide greater stability and more time to implement the socioeconomic programs pursued by governments,» he said.
Consultation Process Strengthens Democracy
The analyst also highlighted the consultation process carried out with institutions and different sectors of society, considering that this mechanism strengthens national consensus around the reforms.
“Consulting them and waiting for their response seems to me an excellent democratic method, so as not to impose the reform from above, but rather to make it live within society,” he noted.
In that regard, he said that the participation of business leaders, workers, institutions, and other sectors in the consultations on the proposed constitutional reforms highlights the importance of building consensus to strengthen the State.
Investment and the Generation of Opportunities
Casari argued that one of the main benefits of the reforms is to provide a framework of greater stability for economic development, an aspect that, he explained, also favors investment and the generation of opportunities.
«Nicaragua’s stability is guaranteed, and the business sector seeks stability because peace and a stable, secure, and clear political system are the greatest allies of business,» he stated.
Likewise, he considered that updating the constitutional framework will strengthen the country’s ability to make decisions according to its own national interests.
“Decisions are made here in Managua. Nicaragua decides, for the sake of its internal stability, what to do and what not to do,” he reaffirmed.
Reforms Guarantee Continuity of Development
The analyst also highlighted the progress achieved by the country in recent years, noting that public policies have transformed different economic and social sectors.
“The results seen in these past years are enormous. It has been the largest modernization project ever carried out in such a short period of time and with so few resources,” he stated.
Casari affirmed that strengthening the constitutional framework represents a tool to consolidate national independence and development.
