The government of Nicaragua has assured that it could be a bridge to expand Russian trade in Latin America, during its participation in the Russia-Latin America Parliamentary Forum.
The representative of the Central American nation for the strengthening of Russian-Nicaraguan relations, Laureano Ortega Murillo, reaffirmed Nicaragua’s support for the Eurasian nation in the new world context.
“We can assure, brothers, that Nicaragua is not neutral, Nicaragua is with Russia, because it is the right thing to do, it is the fair thing,” Ortega assured.
Likewise, he referred to the joint efforts made by both nations, with the aim of agreeing on actions that allow mutual benefit.
“We are proud to cooperate with the Russian Federation, to have this relationship of brotherhood and fraternity. We want to reiterate that Nicaragua must be considered by Russia as a regional platform to be able to promote the participation of Russia, its companies, and its trade for the entire region,» the Nicaraguan representative stressed.
Ortega Murillo recalled the historical relations that have been consolidated between Managua and Moscow, which he classified as “the historic brotherhood” and stated that Nicaragua considers Russia a “fundamental pillar” in the promotion of the new world order, under the figure of cooperation and multilateralism.
Historical relations with Nicaragua
The Russia-Latin America Parliamentary Forum takes place in the city of Moscow from September 29 to October 2 and is the first large-scale event, with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the legislative bodies of the Russian Federation and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

During the opening ceremony, President Vladimir Putin emphasized the relations that Russia has strengthened with Latin American countries, such as Nicaragua, Cuba, Bolivia and Venezuela.

“Our common assets include a number of large investments and mutually beneficial high-tech projects. Let me remind you, for example, that now (these are just a few examples), the Nuclear Research and Technology Center is being built in Bolivia with the participation of Russia, joint biopharmaceutical companies are expanding their activities in Nicaragua and Venezuela, and a metallurgical company is modernizing plant in Cuba. These are just some examples,” said the Russian representative.
