The Government of Nicaragua announced the development of agreements to carry out megaprojects in cooperation with the People’s Republic of China, among them “a railway project, a railway, the restoration of an airport, development in the hydroelectric area and construction of roads”.
The vice president of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, highlighted the progress in consolidating agreements on works by a high delegation of Nicaraguan representatives who are in the Asian country participating in the III Belt and Road Forum.
Mega works in strategic cooperation between Nicaragua and Chinese companies
“Within the logic of the Forum we are going to sign a Memorandum for the studies, designs and construction of a Managua-Masaya-Granada Railway, we are also going to formulate the Managua-Corinto-Bluefields Railway Master Plan. We will sign a Cooperation Agreement for Road Projects, this is with the Chinese company CCCCI; The first, which is the Railway, is with the Chinese company, CCECC. And then we would have the expansion of the Guanacaste-Nandaime-Rivas and Rivas- Sapoá Highway,” Murillo explained.
In addition, the vice president of the Latin American nation specified that a “Framework Agreement for the Coastal Highway Project, Phase 2, is being developed with the Chinese state company, CSCEC. And the Memorandum for the Mojolka and Tumarin Hydroelectric Projects, with the Chinese state company Huadian Overseas investment. Likewise, she confirmed that the contract for the reconstruction, expansion and improvement of the Punta Huete “Panchito” International Airport was signed with the Chinese state company, CAMCE Ingenieros.
In this sense, she recalled the recent delivery to transport cooperatives of 250 buses acquired through the Chinese company, Yutong, and reaffirmed that another fleet of these vehicles will arrive. In addition, she reported that “we are already in the contracting, signing stage, it has already been done, 2,000 more buses for families throughout the country who travel by public transportation”.

The Sandinista Government assured that the Nicaraguan delegation will also hold meetings with the Chinese company, Yutong, to continue the supply programs of Chinese buses for public transportation in Nicaragua and with the Chinese company, CSCEC, to follow up on the households.

At the III Belt and Road Forum, there are General Oscar Mojica, head of the Nicaraguan Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure; the vice minister, Tania Diaz; the director of the Municipal Transportation Regulatory Institute of Managua, Amaru Ramírez; and the ambassador, Michael Campbell.
