Australia is facing an intense flu season where children are the ones who suffer the most

Australia experiences an intense flu season and in some parts of the country the increase in the number of cases of infection occurred in children.

Where it is winter is happening, flu cases began to increase in May according to the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care.

The agency said the number of cases is higher than the five-year average, but lower than around this time in 2019 and 2022.

The groups that are getting sicker than ever are children, more than other age groups, because vaccines have been challenged since the pandemic by the discontinuation of childhood vaccination.
