From optimizing the quality of care to incorporating advanced technologies, Nicaragua’s military medical corps has reached many achievements that have not only strengthened the provision of services, but also they have positioned the Alejandro Dávila Bolaños Hospital as a benchmark in health and medical technology in Latin America.
Reference in medical care and technology
On a day that marks the 44th anniversary of the creation of the Nicaraguan Army and its Military Medical Corps, Colonel Marco Antonio Salas Cruz has drawn attention to the outstanding progress made in the last year.
Colonel Salas Cruz highlighted the progress made in three essential components: human resources, technology and infrastructure.
The «Hospital Alejandro Dávila Bolaños», through the Military Medical Corps, has twice obtained the highest category «Diamond» awarded by the International Accreditation Organization Canada.
In this way, it became the first healthcare center in Nicaragua to receive such recognition.
Innovation and recognition in healthcare
Salas shared some notable milestones, such as the Excellence in Quality and Safety Award and the Commitment to People-Centered Care Award, being the first hospital in Latin America to do so. Likewise, the Alejandro Dávila Bolaños Military Hospital is part of the Green and Healthy Hospitals Network.
In the process of modernization, the Military Medical Corps has established a Simulator Centre for medical, dental and nursing education, with a focus on patient quality and safety.
In addition, state-of-the-art units have been developed, including a Magnetic Resonance Unit with 2 high-tech resonators, an Ophthalmology Center with high resolution capacity and an Otolaryngology Clinic.
Between 2022 and 2023, the Military Medical Corps participated in 5 specialized medical care sessions in 40 communities and provided more than 4,771 consultations in collaboration with the Navy.

Colonel Salas also points out that the medical corps has actively participated in national preparation exercises and has contributed significantly to the donation of blood and the fight against vector diseases.

In recent years, the focus has also been on the immunization campaign against COVID-19, carried out in all military units and supported by the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health.
