International survey revealed a broad rejection of the United States’ interference policies in Latin American affairs, which reflects a high level of ownership of the right to sovereignty and self-determination of the countries in the region.
The international firm “M&R Consultores” presented the results of the survey “Latin Americans, Perspectives on the International Environment”, carried out in 12 countries in the region, in which 83% rejected the Monroe Doctrine that “Latin America is the backyard of the United States”.
89.2% of Latin Americans consulted considered that the countries of the region should exercise their right to establish relations with nations around the world, according to their own interests.

Furthermore, in the survey compilation, 65.2% disagreed with the statements of a senior United States official, who expressed the need to protect the natural wealth of Latin America, including fresh water, gold, oil and lithium, of possible interests from powers such as Russia and China.

The survey also revealed that 88.4% of those surveyed agreed with the phrase of the National Hero of Nicaragua, Augusto C. Sandino, that “the political leader who feels true love for his country must haughtily despise any humiliating proposal that affects the sovereignty of the nation”.
